Looking for a new monster flick this spring? Director Scott Walker—whose last film was 2013’s Frozen Ground starring Nic Cage, John Cusack, and Vanessa Hudgens—has a new movie coming out that, if the trailer is any indication, looks properly fun and scary.

The trailer for The Tank introduces us to a happy family, where the father, Ben (Matt Whelan), inherits a gorgeous plot of land from his deceased mother. He, his wife Jules (Luciane Buchanan), and their daughter Reia (Zara Nausbaum) head to the property which seems pretty great until they come across… the water tank.

Here’s the movie’s synopsis:

After mysteriously inheriting an abandoned coastal property, Ben and his family accidentally unleash an ancient, long-dormant creature that terrorized the entire region—including his own ancestors—for generations.

We don’t see too much of the creature in the trailer, but I’ve seen enough to confirm that this aforementioned being does not have good intentions toward Ben and his family. According to Collider, the effects for the monster (portrayed by Regina Hegemann) were put together by Weta co-founder Richard Taylor, whose previous work on several films including King Kong and The Lord of the Rings trilogy earned him five Oscars.

Consider me intrigued! The Tank premieres in select theaters on April 21, 2023 and will be available on demand starting April 25, 2023.
